Blended Distance Learning Approach in the New Normal and the Core Competencies in Cookery Among TVL Students
2022, Asia Pacific Journal of Advanced Education and Technology
This study aimed to determine the perceptions of the Grade 11-TVL Cookery students in blended distance learning through personalized and competency-based learning approaches, and the challenges of this modality. More so, it determined whether these perceptions had significant relationships to the development of hard and soft skills, and cognitive skills in Cookery. The descriptivecorrelational method of research was utilized using survey questionnaire, rubrics, and summative test. The statistical tools used were mean, standard deviation, frequency, and percentage. Pearson r was used to determine the significant relationships among the given variables. Results disclosed that there were moderate to strong positive and significant relationship between the variables except to the correlation between personalized learning and cognitive skills. Parallel to this, there were also moderate strong positive and significant relationship between the availability and use of educational technology and the skills of the students. However, the perception on the challenges in terms of instructional materials is significantly related to communication as a measure of soft skills, while the social support is significantly related to the level of hard and soft skills, but not to cognitive skills.

This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the distance learning home experience and the food preparation skills of Grade-9 students in Technology and Livelihood Education. The Descriptive-Correlational research design was adopted, and statistical tools such as Pearson r correlational analysis were utilized to test the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Hypotheses were tested, and the findings revealed the following information: Using Pearson's r correlation analysis, the data revealed that internet access is moderate negative significance to preparing fruits and vegetables, the use of a cooker, and cooking methods for Grade 9 TLE students. The knife is the moderate negative significance of online learning resources. Home assistance is moderate negative significance to preparing fruits and vegetables, using a cooker, and cooking techniques and thus the null hypothesis is not sustained. Hence, timely feedback, time allotment, and instructional delivery have no significant relationship with the food preparation skills of the learners thus the null hypothesis is sustained in this respect. It indicates that the learners experienced all the distance learning at home but when it comes to the food preparation skills, they still need the guidance of the teachers in performing their skills. It only shows that the teacher plays a vital role in improving the food preparation skills of the learners in distance learning. Having these findings, the study recommends that a comprehensive professional development program be implemented to ensure that online teachers will be given a chance to improve themselves in teaching virtually continuously; teachers are given technical assistance through training, workshop, coaching, and mentoring on class programming, and sharing of assignments, learning management specifically in managing online classes using the ICT and managing the school facilities and equipment may be considered as possible topics in the future learning and development programs for the teachers and future researchers may conduct a study on the distance learning experience of learners at home in the food preparation skills of the learners on a broader scale.
Asia Pacific Journal of Advanced Education and Technology, 2022
This study aimed to determine the performance of Grade 7 learners in TLE class specifically in cookery and the issues encountered in the implementation of modular distance learning. The descriptive method of research was utilized in this study. A researcher-made questionnaire was the main data-gathering instrument. Respondents were the 100 Grade 7 students of Dagatan Integrated National High School. The statistical tools that were used by the researchers throughout the study were simple frequency and percent counts, weighted mean, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient at a .05 level of significance. The respondents perceived issues encountered in using the learning module in terms of physical absence to great extent. While, the academic support, availability of instructional materials, learning process, learning space at home, feedback and monitoring, and assessment was perceived as moderate extent. The level of performance of respondents in terms of written works was at risk or below 75 while in terms of performance tasks they got outstanding grades. Based on the findings it was concluded that the hypothesis stating that there is no significant relationship between the perceived issues encountered in using learning modules and performance in TLE is not sustained with regards to the availability of instructional materials and feedback and monitoring of written works. Furthermore, the same conclusion was observed with regard to the relationship of the profile of the respondents in terms of gender to written works, and performance tasks. On the other hand, the rest of the variables under study were found not significantly related, hence the null hypothesis in this is reflected as sustained. Thus, it was recommended that the Department of Education may consider the findings of this study in the development of necessary academic materials. Similar study may be conducted focusing on other areas of TLE-Exploratory Course while addressing other problems and challenges met not only by the students but also by the teachers.
Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal , 2023
Home economics is one of the learning areas in the K-12 curriculum which is performance-based as it develops a wide range of practical skills that enable learners to gain knowledge and understanding on cooking, family financing, nutrition, and other various skills for life. But with this pandemic, how will the mentioned skills will be developed among learners, especially in the modular distance learning modality. This study, aimed to look into the learners' perceptions and practices on modular distance learning: Implications to Home Economics performance at Dalamas Integrated School, South-1 District, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte in the school year 2022-2023. The study utilized the descriptive-correlational research design. Included in the data were the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, and parents' educational attainment; perceptions of the respondents on Modular Distance Learning in terms of students' preparedness, modular content, distribution and retrieval of modules, and support from school; and the academic performance of the students. Findings revealed that the respondents perceived Home Economics as helpful in improving their practical and life skills preparing them for their future. Though difficulties in providing good laboratories for applications of their topic are met especially in this time of the pandemic, still the students have realized the importance of Home Economics in their lives. It can be noted that learners need learning materials suitable to their needs to improve their engagement and participation in their classes. Moreover, providing a supportive school environment improves their motivation to learn the necessary skills expected of them to perform in their Home Economics class. However, data revealed that perceptions of students on modular distance learning do not necessarily affect their academic performance and that their perceptions is not differentiated based on their profile.
The modular distance learning modality poses a big challenge for the Technical-Vocational and Livelihood (TVL) students, especially on the compliance of the performance tasks. This paper presents the challenges of the TVL students while performing the performance tasks. Phenomenology was used to gather data from the interviews of 15 TVL students from La Filipina National High School. Results revealed that students faced the following challenges: has little knowledge of the task, lack of resources, difficulties with technology, environmental disruption, and conflict of time. However, these challenges have been coped with by managing time, seeking help from others, and looking for financial resources. The results implied that teachers, heads, supervisors, and administrators play an essential role in the actualization of the goals and in helping the students overcome the challenges in the new normal. Also, the study gives awareness, insights, and suggestions that may be useful in providing quality education to TVL students.
Journal of General Education and Humanities, 2023
The onset of the new normal in the school, as an effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighted the importance of using blended learning to embrace the transition from pure online to face-to-face classes. This study intends to ascertain the mediating influence of academic attitude on domestic factors, teaching-learning practices, and students' performance in TLE (Technology and Livelihood Education)-Cookery in a Blended Learning environment among the Grade 9 students of St. John of Beverly School Inc. and the challenges of the new normal setup in education. The study employed the descriptive correlational design and a survey questionnaire distributed via Google Forms-Pearson product-moment-correlation coefficient to determine the relationship among the variables. The results revealed that academic attitude, self-discipline, and motivation have a significant effect on cognitive performance with r = .337 and r =.318 significance when tested at a .05 level of significance, respectively, and self-discipline has a significant effect on psychomotor performance with r =.282 significance when tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The researcher, however, recommends further study to investigate other academic attitudes such as optimism, diligence, perseverance, and resourcefulness or other more appropriate variables to study the mediating role of academic attitudes in the blended learning environment on students' cognitive and psychomotor performance.

INTRODUCTION
It is a great endeavor for the Philippines to enhance the basic education program for the youth. As it was known as K-12, the learners of today have a higher chance to be more competitive globally. Further, K-12 offers several strands which include Technical Vocational and Livelihood (TVL) that could lead them to entrepreneurship, higher education, and employment. In the last two years that Bauan Technical High School offers Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), its learners felt inferior among other strand takers. TVL students were compared among other strands as students think that TVL is a less wise choice to have a better future. The researchers want to give phenomenological bases to students on the coign of vantage on having TVL strand specifically GTAW. Significantly, this research ventures on the advances of technical vocational strand -GTAW major highlighting the lived experiences of GTAW students in the said school highlighting the curriculum, challenges and the opportunities stored for skill students of TVL. Purposefully, the study would offer a program that will help the school and TVL takers to uplift their strand in the academe.
Purposive Sampling determined the 60 respondents for which are 30 selected students who are currently enrolled in the said strand and 30 teachers of TVL. Data were gathered through interview, Focus Group Discussion, and direct observation. Discourse Analysis strengthens the fact gathered through these procedures. Furthermore, the data were analyzed and validated with the strong support of literature reviews.
Momentously, the study revealed significant experiences and encounters of the respondents with the TVL strand takers. These experiences and encounters were manifested in the cognitive, psychomotor, affective, and interpersonal and social skills of TVL students. Moreover, the study showed great differences in the perception towards TVL takers and the perception of the TVL takers to themselves. Indicators showed these differences as they went through focus group discussions. Lack of confidence, complacency, and trust on personality, ability, and work towards TVL students are some of these indicators which lead TVL strands to feel lowliness.
DISCUSSIONS
The results demonstrate the need for a mechanism that will uplift the Technical Vocational Strand in view of Bauan Technical High School students and teachers as well. With this, the researchers proposed a digital TVL strand Manifesto for strand enhancement in the said learning institution.
