KCL PhD Programme in Translational Research in Advanced Cell and Gene Therapies

Applications are invited for the King’s PhD Programme in Translational Research in Advanced Cell and Gene Therapies, commencing October 2025
We have several studentships available and invite enthusiastic and motivated individuals seeking to pursue a PhD in Advanced Therapies (ATs).
We will train the next generation of key opinion leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs in ATs by stimulating interactions between non-clinical and clinical experts. King’s is a world leader in the field of ATs allowing us to leverage a critical mass of expertise in cancer, immune regulation, metabolic disease, genetic disorders, neurodegeneration and cardiovascular disease to develop our programme. We also incorporate cross-cutting disciplines, including health data science, artificial intelligence, imaging and bioengineering.
Training and mentorship will be facilitated by regular in-person interactions and blended learning. Students will learn fundamental and advanced research skills, receive bespoke training in ATs, together with professional and career development support. We have a pool of > 80 supervisors selected with scientific excellence, gender balance and ethnic diversity in mind. Our Industry Partners will allow students to undertake masterclasses, visits, placements. Our students will be embedded in the UK Advanced Therapy Network.
The programme is fully funded for 3.5 years.
- Stipend: at URKI rate
- Bench Fees Allowance will cover research consumables
- Tuition fees, including for EU and International applicants, will be covered
Eligibility
Applicants must possess, or be expected to achieve, a 1st or good upper 2nd class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject. In addition, a distinction or merit is required when applicants have (or expect to obtain) an MSc degree.
If English is not your first language, you will be required to provide evidence that you meet the minimum English requirements of the Faculty details can be found on our website. If you cannot provide this confirmation before applying, any offer you are made would be conditional upon you meeting these requirements before enrolment and no later than four weeks before the course starts.
How to apply
There are two stages to the application process:
Stage One consists of consists of completing an online application form to inform us of your qualifications and relevant experience, your motivation for applying and your future career plans. Please upload your CV.
The successful candidates will be invited to panel interviews in Stage Two. Applicants who are offered an interview will be invited to submit an application via Kings, where final checks on academic qualifications, English language requirements and fee status will be made. Completing this process is required to be awarded a studentship.

• W/c 16 December 2024: Outcomes to stage one application
• W/c 16 December 2024: King’s Apply applications open
• 13 January 2025 17:00 (GMT): King’s Apply applications close
