LCM Hong Kong Speech Festival Preparation Course 2023 at DBIS

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted to announce that DBIS will be supporting 27 Year 3 to Year 6 students to prepare for the 2023 London College of Music (Hong Kong) Speech Festival , with the support of Ms Liz Search, a valued member of our school teaching community. The LCM Speech Festival is a fantastic opportunity for children to enhance their public speaking and performance skills and gain a huge boost in confidence. Ms Search will be delivering the training courtesy of her company, Mud Pies Education, an English school and British school consultancy located on Hong Kong Island that supports children develop English reading, writing, speaking and presentation skills ( www.mudpieseducation.com).

This year, the festival will take place on the weekend of 29th April 2023 to 1st May 2023 . Every year, students from DBIS enter the festival and win trophies and certificates and receive excellent feedback from the judges.

DBIS is offering an extra ECA this year to help our students prepare for the speech festival. We teach delivery, intonation, pitch, speed, volume and facial expressions so your child has the best possible chance of success. We even teach children how to stamp out those pesky nerves!

We are delighted to have Ms Search’s expertise shared with the children as this is an area that she has supported many students through in past competitions. Usually, there is a charge associated with the training sessions; however, this year we would like to offer this opportunity to as many children as possible so the training fee is waived and only the entrance fee is required.

If you are interested in your child signing up to take part in this opportunity, please find below some key information:

  • Six preparation sessions will be held at no additional cost at DBIS on Tuesdays in the Primary Science Hub between 3.20pm – 4.15pm on the dates listed here: 7/3, 14/3, 21/3, 28/3. Easter Break. 18/4, 25/4
  • To sign up for the preparation sessions, please complete this short Google Form: https://forms.gle/ysdMd862HVAzCbtX9
  • Parents will need to register their child/children for the LCM competition using this link: https://www.hotungmills.org/lcmsf
  • The entrance fee for the Speech Festival is HK$450, which is paid directly to LCM
  • Parents will take their child/children to the festival on the designated date during the weekend of 29th April to 1st May 2023.

If you would like to register your child for the 2023 LCM Speech Festival, please do so here https://www.hotungmills.org/lcmsf

* Please note the application deadline for the competition is Tuesday 28th February 2023 *

As we are limited in the number of children joining the preparation sessions, we will only be able to take the first 27 students registered using the Google Form linked above. Please only sign up for the preparation sessions if you are registering your child with LCM and they are able to make the actual competition dates. If you have any questions about this opportunity, please contact Ms Search at [email protected] .

We are very excited about this opportunity for our children to showcase their public speaking and performance skills to a wide and supportive audience.

Best wishes,

Anna Christiansen

We are at the mercy of available classroom sizes and cannot guarantee enough space for guests to watch. To protect students’ privacy, festival staff will not share such information with individuals other than head coaches of record. Additionally, guests may not record (photo, film, audio) in any contest rooms .

Registration Confirmation #

Schools have until Thursday, April 11 , 2024, to re-register/confirm on SpeechWire for the WISDAA State Speech Festival.  All schools must log in , add adjudicators (or acknowledge the $200/uncovered adjudicator) and complete the Confirm Entries step. Schools also may pre-order merchandise directly within SpeechWire; however, placing such an order does obligate the school to that financial commitment. To begin, click the button to Access SpeechWire and log in, or if logged in, click the Registration icon .

Schools are encouraged to pre-order through SpeechWire (you can generate a separate merchandise invoice right from the order page); individuals may purchase directly on our website , but no T-shirts will be shipped before the State Festival . No merchandise will be released at the festival without payment (or a school purchase order). There will be a limited inventory on-hand at the festival, so pre-order by 12 Noon on Thursday, April 11 for the convenience of having an order ready when you get to State.
