Capture attention with your real estate cover letter’s greeting and intro

When staging a home, the objective is to display it in a way that grabs someone’s attention the moment they walk through the front door. You can also use strategies to capture attention immediately with your real estate cover letter.

The first step is finding a hiring manager to address your cover letter by reviewing the job description and company website. It’s similar to learning names when greeting buyers at an open house. It makes their experience feel more personal.

Once you get into the opening paragraph, you’ll want to relate to the company’s mission and how your skills, like negotiation or market analysis, will fit their needs.

You should avoid sounding like you could be applying to any real estate position, as in the example below.

Try to get more specific than this!

Hello,

I’m eager to be applying for your real estate agent opening. I have five years of experience, and this looks like a great company for my skills.

Instead, write an opener like the one below that immediately relates to Halstead Real Estate’s mission of integrity and innovative property solutions.

When you get to the body of your real estate cover letter, it’s time to provide more details about how your skills and experiences make you the right candidate for each company’s needs.

Ideally, choose examples that align with the job description . For instance, a real estate firm looking to increase its online presence may appreciate agents who are well-versed in social media marketing and optimizing online property listings.

You should also include some essential real estate metrics in your example, like listing-to-meeting ratios, homes sold, and average commission per sale.

A well-structured body paragraph full of essential metrics!

Solidify your abilities with the closing and sign off of your real estate cover letter

The closing of your real estate cover letter is similar to how you’d end a property showing with a client. You’d want to wrap things up by reviewing key features that make a property special. You should do the same with your top skills and how you fit in with the company’s mission.

It’s also good practice to say thank you and use a light call to action, like “I look forward to discussing this opportunity with you further.” It helps reinforce your interest, just like you would when meeting with a prospective client who is considering selling their home through your real estate firm.

The example below is a good start but could use some work since the applicant doesn’t relate back to any specific needs or the mission of the real estate firm.

Needs more details!

I believe my skills fit in well with your firm’s needs, and I would be eager to join your team. I look forward to hearing from you soon to discuss this real estate agent position in more detail.

John Ramos

A better option is the closer below that shows exactly how the client fits in with Dream Town Realty’s broker team and people-first mission.

A great closer that connects with the company’s mission!

At times, you may review the job description , real estate firm’s website, and social media profiles like LinkedIn and still not find the name of a hiring manager. In those instances, you can simply lead with “Dear [name of company] hiring team.” Just be sure to follow with a highly specific opening paragraph that shows your passion for the company and how your skills, like prospecting and negotiation, fit in with their mission.

When working with clients, you probably try to speak in a tone they’ll relate to well as you explain the specifics of each property. You can use the same strategy in your cover letter by reviewing the job description and trying to match each real estate firm’s tone as best as possible.

You should keep your real estate cover letter on a single page. It’ll help provide a concise overview of your abilities, like lead generation and property staging, without overwhelming hiring managers with too many details when they quickly review applicants.

A great real estate agent cover letter usually has five sections, outlined below. When possible, connect each section back to your sales, marketing, and other pertinent skills. The following advice and examples show what to include in your cover letter so it’s optimized for each job application.

At the top of the page, include your resume contact header, the date, and any basic details you have about your recipient (as in the example below). To set a clear focus, add the title “Real Estate Agent” to your contact header. You can then modify your title to align with each job posting. For instance, use the title “Commercial Real Estate Agent” if that’s closer to the role in question and still true to your experience.

(Note: Feel free to omit this section if you send your letter by email and your contact details are part of your signature.)

2. Salutation

Whenever you can, address your recipient by name – it’s the quickest way to signal you’re sending a job-specific letter and not a boilerplate. If you can’t find the recipient’s name, use a variation of “Dear Hiring Manager” so your greeting is still tailored somewhat to each real estate firm.

Dear Carpenter Realtors Talent Specialist:

3. “Hook” or introduction

Catch the reader’s attention by starting your letter with a clear example of your impact as a real estate agent. Choose a highlight that demonstrates your talent for engaging with buyers and sellers, as well as your skill at handling the many parts of a home sale.

4. Body paragraph(s)

Use the main section of your letter to tell why this real estate job or employer suits you. For instance, you could share the company’s focus on creative property marketing. Or maybe the job posting describes a dynamic work culture similar to your recent experience.

Following this explanation, cite a few more of your main skills or achievements , possibly as bullet points. In the real estate agent cover letter sample below, see how the applicant uses bullets to cover relevant duty areas like client education and property descriptions.

5. Call to action

Finally, request an interview for the position. Consider briefly restating your ability to manage successful home sales or transactions. To end your cover letter, use a simple closing like “Sincerely” or “Best regards” and then your name.

Real Estate Agent Cover Letter Tips

1. quantify your success.

With performance data like sales rankings or client referral rates, you can make your cover letter more specific and compelling to employers. In the example below, see how the candidate’s citing 35% growth makes a stronger impression than if he’d used a general phrase like “Boosting my client roster by a large amount…”

2. Highlight your skills and market knowledge

As part of your letter’s body text, add a short list of bullet points showing your success in key real estate agent work areas, like home staging, revenue growth, or client communications. Also, consider citing your knowledge of market factors and how you’ve used that insight to deliver value to home buyers or sellers.

3. Keep it concise

Limit your cover letter to one page, or around 250 words. Resist the urge to tell your whole career story, even if you have extensive background in real estate. Give just enough detail to pique hiring managers’ interest so they take a closer look at your resume.

Real Estate Agent Cover Letter Frequently Asked Questions

How can i make my cover letter introduction stand out -.

When possible, network. Start your letter by citing any connections you have with your recipient. If someone at the company alerted you to the job, use a line like "I was excited to hear from your colleague [Name] about [Company]'s new real estate agent position." Or, if you've already met your recipient, mention that with a line like "It was great speaking with you at the [event] last month."

How should I format my cover letter? -

Like your resume. Carry over that document’s basic format settings , such as font style, line spacing, and page margins.

Are cover letters becoming obsolete? -

No. As long as hiring managers want to know why you want the job and don’t have time to get your (initial) answer by interview, the cover letter will stay a key part of the job search.

Cover Letter Header Examples for Real Estate Agent

Great header.

Emily Johnson

[email protected]

Explanation

The cover letter header serves as your introduction to the potential employer, creating an immediate first impression. For a Real Estate Agent position, a polished and professional header is crucial as it reflects your attention to detail and professionalism—qualities essential in the real estate industry. A well-organized header not only provides the necessary contact information but also sets a tone of competence that can influence whether your application is taken seriously.

What to Focus on with Your Cover Letter Header

When applying for a Real Estate Agent role, ensure that your cover letter header includes your full name, professional email address, and a contact number. Consider highlighting your business card if applicable, and make sure the header is visually appealing consistent with real estate branding. It's important to format the header neatly to convey organization and professionalism. Avoid including unnecessary personal information such as your home address, unless specified by the employer. Focus on presenting yourself as someone who understands the importance of clear communication and professionalism in real estate.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Using an informal email address (e.g., [email protected])
  • Failing to include a complete date
  • Not aligning the header visually with the rest of the document

To make your cover letter header stand out as a Real Estate Agent, utilize a clean and professional font that emphasizes your contact information. Choose a format that aligns with modern real estate branding to enhance your credibility. Ensure that all details are correct and formatted cohesively with the rest of the cover letter to showcase your professionalism from the start.

Cover Letter Greeting Examples for Real Estate Agent

Great greeting.

Dear Ms. Johnson,

Bad greeting

The greeting of your cover letter is your opportunity to establish a professional tone and make a positive first impression with potential employers in the real estate industry. An effective greeting conveys respect and shows that you value the opportunity to apply for the position. Given the competitive nature of real estate, personalizing your greeting reflects your attention to detail and individualized approach, which are key qualities in this field.

How to Get Your Cover Letter Greeting Right

For a Real Estate Agent position, it’s crucial to begin your cover letter with a formal and tailored greeting. Whenever possible, find out the name of the hiring manager or lead broker and address them directly. If their name isn't available, consider addressing the greeting to the firm's hiring committee, real estate team, or the office manager. Avoid generic greetings like 'To Whom It May Concern' or casual ones such as 'Hi there.' A strong greeting, like 'Dear Mr. Smith,' or 'Dear ABC Realty Hiring Team,' demonstrates professionalism and sets the right tone for the rest of your application.

When crafting your cover letter greeting as a Real Estate Agent, prioritize a blend of professionalism and personalization. Always strive to use the hiring manager's name if possible; if not, a formal title or a reference to the team shows your intentionality and respect for the application process.

Cover Letter Intro Examples for Real Estate Agent

Great intro.

With five years of experience in residential real estate and a proven track record of successfully meeting diverse client needs, I am excited to apply for the Real Estate Agent position at ABC Realty. Your commitment to client-focused services and community engagement deeply resonates with my own professional values, and I am eager to bring my skills in negotiation and market analysis to your dynamic team.

I am applying for the real estate job. I have been in the industry for some time and believe I can sell houses well. I think your agency is a good place to work.

The introduction of your cover letter is a vital opportunity to make a strong first impression as a Real Estate Agent. It allows you to showcase not only your qualifications and experience but also your enthusiasm for the real estate market and the specific agency you wish to join. A compelling introduction can differentiate you from other candidates and emphasizes your alignment with the values and mission of the agency, making it a critical component of your application.

How to Craft an Effective Cover Letter Introduction

Begin your introduction with a strong statement about your experience in the real estate industry, especially if it relates to the specific market or demographic the agency serves. Follow this by articulating your interest in the agency and why it appeals to you – whether it's their reputation, client approach, or innovative strategies in the market. Finally, connect your professional goals with the agency's mission to create an engaging and relevant introduction.

  • Starting with a clichéd phrase such as 'I am writing to apply...'.
  • Not tailoring the introduction to the specific real estate agency or position.
  • Failing to highlight relevant experience or specific achievements.
  • Using overly technical jargon that may alienate the reader.

To make your cover letter introduction stand out, convey your passion for real estate and your proactive approach to helping clients. Highlight specific achievements or unique selling points in your experience that relate to the job. Additionally, clearly show how your professional values align with those of the agency to create a memorable and impactful introduction.

Cover Letter Body Examples for Real Estate Agent

As a dedicated Real Estate Agent with over five years of experience, I have successfully closed over 100 transactions, resulting in a sales volume exceeding $30 million. My approach is centered on building strong, trust-based relationships with clients, evidenced by my high rate of repeat business and referrals. I pride myself on my in-depth knowledge of the local market, which allows me to provide clients with comprehensive insights into pricing strategies and neighborhood dynamics. For example, I recently helped a first-time homebuyer navigate the competitive market by implementing a targeted search strategy that resulted in a successful offer on their dream home after only three weeks of searching. My commitment to excellence in service and my proactive approach to client communication are the cornerstones of my professional philosophy, ensuring that each client feels valued and informed throughout the entire process.

I have been working in real estate for a couple of years and have sold some houses. I think I am a good agent because I work hard and try to help my clients find what they want. Sometimes it can be tough to get the sales price that everyone is happy with. I want to work at your agency because it seems like a good place to further my career. I believe I could learn a lot and eventually be among the top agents.

The body of your cover letter is critical for showcasing your qualifications and unique selling points as a Real Estate Agent. This section should demonstrate your understanding of the market, your negotiation skills, and how you can benefit potential clients. It is essential to provide specific examples of your successes in previous roles, such as sales figures or client testimonials, to build credibility and convey your passion for helping clients achieve their real estate goals.

How to Craft an Effective Cover Letter Body

When writing the body of your cover letter as a Real Estate Agent, focus on detailing your relevant experience and specific achievements. Highlight successful transactions that required skillful negotiation and market knowledge. Discuss your understanding of current market trends and how you leverage this knowledge to provide excellent service to clients. Clearly articulate what sets you apart, such as exceptional customer service skills, a strong network, or innovative marketing strategies. Additionally, emphasize your commitment to your clients' needs and how you help them navigate the buying or selling process.

  • Being too general about your experience and failing to provide specific evidence of your achievements.
  • Neglecting to demonstrate an understanding of the local real estate market.
  • Focusing too much on yourself rather than the potential benefits to the client.
  • Using jargon without explanation, which may alienate some readers.

To make your cover letter body stand out, emphasize quantitative achievements like sales figures or client satisfaction ratings. Share stories that highlight your client relations and negotiation skills, and back them up with solid examples. This not only shows your capability but also your dedication to helping clients achieve their real estate dreams.

Cover Letter Closing Paragraph Examples for Real Estate Agent

Great closing.

I am excited about the opportunity to join your esteemed agency as a Real Estate Agent. With my extensive knowledge of the local market and a proven track record in fostering client relationships, I am confident in my ability to drive sales and contribute to your team's success. I am eager to leverage my negotiation skills and marketing strategies to help clients achieve their real estate goals. I look forward to the possibility of discussing how I can bring my passion for real estate to your agency.

Bad closing

I think I'm suitable for this job and have some experience in real estate. I'm looking forward to possibly working with you and hope to hear from you soon.

The closing paragraph of your cover letter is a crucial component that serves as your final opportunity to make a strong impression on potential employers in the real estate industry. This section should reflect your enthusiasm for the role, highlight your qualifications and skills, and express your readiness to contribute to their success. Given the competitive nature of real estate, a compelling closing is essential as it can set you apart from other candidates and demonstrate your commitment to deliver exceptional client service.

How to Craft an Effective Cover Letter Closing

When crafting your closing paragraph as a Real Estate Agent, emphasize your knowledge of the local market and your dedication to helping clients achieve their real estate goals. Highlight specific skills that differentiate you, such as negotiation expertise or marketing strategies that have driven success in previous roles. It's vital to express your eagerness to discuss your candidacy further in an interview, showcasing your readiness to contribute positively to their team and your enthusiasm for the company’s mission.

  • Being overly vague or generic, which fails to convey your true interest in the position or the company.
  • Neglecting to connect your existing skills and experiences with the specific needs of the real estate agency.
  • Lacking a confident tone, which might suggest uncertainty about your qualifications.
  • Failing to clearly express your desire for an interview or next steps in the hiring process.

To close your cover letter effectively, express your enthusiasm for the real estate agent position and illustrate how your skills align with the company's objectives. Make it clear that you are eager to discuss your qualifications further in an interview, and always convey a sense of readiness and commitment to delivering value to their team.

Cover Letter Writing Tips for Real Estate Agents

Highlight your real estate knowledge.

When applying for a Real Estate Agent position, it’s essential to demonstrate your understanding of the local real estate market and industry trends. Discuss any relevant certifications, training, or licenses that you hold, such as being a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson. Mention specific neighborhoods or property types you specialize in, as this will show your expertise and dedication to the field. Sharing insights about market conditions or recent sales statistics can further illustrate your knowledge and make a strong impression.

Showcase Your Sales and Negotiation Skills

Real estate is fundamentally a sales-driven profession. Use your cover letter to highlight your sales achievements and negotiation skills. Provide examples of successful transactions where you exceeded sales targets or negotiated favorable terms for your clients. For instance, mention instances where you reduced closing costs by a certain percentage or closed deals in a competitive market. This quantifiable evidence will demonstrate your ability to deliver results and meet client expectations.

Build Trust Through Client Relationships

As a Real Estate Agent, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients is crucial. Emphasize your customer service skills and any experience you have in managing client expectations. Discuss how you’ve fostered long-term relationships through effective communication and by going the extra mile. Including a testimonial or brief story of a satisfied client can showcase your commitment to client satisfaction and help build trust with potential employers.

Tailor Your Cover Letter to the Agency

To stand out, tailor your cover letter specifically to the brokerage or agency you are applying to. Research their history, values, and recent listings, and incorporate this information into your cover letter. Explain why you are interested in their agency and how your skills align with their goals. This personalized approach shows that you’ve done your homework and are genuinely passionate about the opportunity to work with them.

Maintain a Professional and Engaging Tone

Your cover letter should convey professionalism while also reflecting your personality, as real estate is a people-oriented business. Use a clear and compelling structure, with an engaging introduction, informative body paragraphs, and a memorable conclusion. Ensure the language is professional yet approachable, avoiding jargon unless necessary. Finally, proofread your cover letter meticulously to avoid any errors, as attention to detail is paramount in the real estate arena.

Cover Letter Mistakes to Avoid as a Real Estate Agent

Lack of personalization.

One common mistake prospective Real Estate Agents make is failing to personalize their cover letters. Simply addressing your letter to "Hiring Manager" or using a generic salutation can signal a lack of genuine interest. Personalization shows that you’ve taken the time to research the company and understand its values. Instead, address your letter to a specific individual, like the hiring manager or lead agent, and mention why you are excited about their specific agency.

Focusing Too Much on Real Estate Buzzwords

While it’s essential to demonstrate industry knowledge, overloading your cover letter with real estate buzzwords can make it hard to communicate your qualifications effectively. Terms like “feng shui” and “turnkey properties” may impress fellow agents but might confuse hiring managers. Instead of relying on jargon, describe your real estate experience clearly and substantively, such as "Successfully closed 15 residential transactions within three months, exceeding sales targets by 20%."

Neglecting Local Market Knowledge

A significant mistake many aspiring Real Estate Agents make is not showcasing their understanding of the local market. Employers are looking for candidates who can immediately contribute to the growth of their business through local expertise. Mention specific neighborhoods you have worked in, trends you’ve noticed, or insights about local buyer behaviors to demonstrate your ability to hit the ground running.

Skipping an Engaging Opening

An engaging opening is crucial for capturing a hiring manager's attention, yet many applicants start with a bland introduction. Instead of saying, "I am applying for the Real Estate Agent position," try opening with a compelling statement about your passion for the industry or your commitment to helping clients achieve their real estate dreams. For example, "As a dedicated professional who believes every family deserves the perfect home, I am excited to apply for the Real Estate Agent position with [Company Name]."

Failing to Include a Call to Action

Many applicants neglect to include a strong call to action at the end of their cover letters. Leaving your conclusion without an invitation for further conversation can imply a lack of confidence or interest. End your cover letter with a proactive statement such as, "I would love to discuss how my local market knowledge and sales experience can benefit your team at [Company Name]. I look forward to the opportunity for an interview." This encourages the hiring manager to reach out and engage with you, increasing your chances of getting noticed.

Cover Letter FAQs

How do i structure my real estate agent cover letter.

Start with a professional greeting and address the hiring manager by name if possible. The first paragraph should introduce yourself and express your interest in the position. In the following paragraphs, highlight your relevant experience in real estate, key skills such as negotiation and market analysis, and specific achievements like sales figures or successful transactions. Conclude with a strong closing statement that reiterates your enthusiasm for the opportunity and invites the employer to contact you for further discussion.

What skills should I emphasize in my Real Estate Agent cover letter?

Focus on skills that are crucial for real estate success, such as excellent communication, negotiation abilities, and knowledge of the local market. Mention any certifications or specializations you hold, like being a licensed REALTOR® or experience with real estate technology tools. Additionally, share examples of how you’ve successfully closed deals or built relationships with clients to illustrate your competencies.

How long should a Real Estate Agent cover letter be?

Your cover letter should be succinct, ideally no longer than one page. Aim for three to four paragraphs that convey your qualifications and enthusiasm without unnecessary filler. A brief cover letter makes it easier for hiring managers to identify your key selling points quickly.

How can I demonstrate my understanding of the real estate market in my cover letter?

Showcase your market knowledge by mentioning specific trends or statistics relevant to the area where you're applying. For instance, discuss how interest rates or housing inventory have impacted sales. You can also reference recent successes in the local market, indicating your ability to navigate and leverage these dynamics for your clients' benefit.

What mistakes should I avoid in my Real Estate Agent cover letter?

Common pitfalls include being overly generic, using a one-size-fits-all approach, and failing to personalize your cover letter for the specific position. Avoid spelling and grammar errors, and don't rehash your resume without adding context. Instead, use the cover letter to tell your story, highlight key achievements, and explain why you’re the best fit for the role.

How can I make my Real Estate Agent cover letter stand out?

Consider including a compelling anecdote that illustrates your passion for real estate and your commitment to helping clients achieve their property goals. Use specific metrics or accomplishments to quantify your success, such as the number of homes sold or customer satisfaction rates. Also, demonstrate knowledge of the company’s values and how they align with your professional ethos.

What should I include in the closing of my Real Estate Agent cover letter?

In your closing paragraph, express your enthusiasm for the opportunity and state your willingness to discuss your qualifications in more detail during an interview. Thank the hiring manager for considering your application and include your contact information for follow-up purposes.

How important is networking experience in my Real Estate Agent cover letter?

Networking is crucial in real estate, as many transactions come from referrals and relationships. Highlight any relevant networking experience, such as membership in local realtor associations or participation in community events. Discuss how your networking skills have helped you generate leads or close deals, showcasing your proactive approach to building your business.

How do I address a lack of experience in my Real Estate Agent cover letter?

If you're entry-level or transitioning from another career, focus on transferable skills such as customer service, sales, or project management that demonstrate your ability to thrive in real estate. Highlight relevant internships, volunteer experiences, or even coursework that has prepared you for the role. Show enthusiasm for the industry and a willingness to learn from experienced colleagues.

Our simple step-by-step guide below provides some more detailed advice on how you can craft a winning cover letter for yourself, that will ensure your CV gets opened.

How to write a Estate Agent cover letter

Here’s how to write your own winning Estate Agent cover letter

How to write a cover letter

Write your cover letter in the body of an email/message

When you send a cover letter with a job application, you should always write your message into the body of your email – or the body of the messaging system if you are sending via a job website.

Why do this?

Simply because you want to get your message seen as soon as the recruiter opens your application.

If you attach the cover letter as a separate item, this means the recipient will have to open it before they can read it – slowing down the process and potentially causing frustration along the way.

So, write your cover note in the body of your email/message to ensure you make an instant connection with the reader.

Write cover letter in body of email

Start with a friendly greeting

Cover letter address

Start you cover letter with a greeting that is professional but friendly.

This will build rapport with the recruiter whilst showing your professionalism.

  • Hi, hope you’re well
  • Hi [insert recruiter name]
  • Hi [insert department/team name]

Avoid overly formal greetings like “Dear sir/madam ” unless applying to very traditional companies.

How to find the contact’s name?

Addressing the recruitment contact by name is an excellent way to start building a strong relationship. If it is not listed in the job advert, try these methods to find it.

  • Check out the company website and look at their  About page. If you see a hiring manager, HR person or internal recruiter, use their name. You could also try to figure out who would be your manager in the role and use their name.
  • Head to LinkedIn , search for the company and scan through the list of employees. Most professionals are on LinkedIn these days, so this is a good bet.

Identify the role you are applying for

After you have greeted the recruiter, it’s important to state the job you are applying to.

Recruiters are often managing multiple vacancies, so they need to know exactly which job you are referring to.

Be as specific as possible and use a reference number if you can find one.

Here are some examples you can use;

  • I am interested in applying for the role of admin assistant with your organisation.
  • I would like to apply for the role of Sales assistant (Ref: 4057393)
  • I would like to express my interest in the customer service vacancy within your retail department
  • I saw your advertisement for a trainee project manager on Reed and would like to apply for the role.

Highlight your suitability

The main purpose of your cover letter is to excite recruiters and make them eager to open your CV. And you achieve this by quickly demonstrating your suitability to the job you are applying for.

Take a look at the job adverts you are applying for, and make note of the most important skills being asked for.

Then, when you write your cover letter, make your suitability the focal point.

Explain how you meet the candidate requirements fully, and why you are so well suited to carry out the job.

This will give recruiters all the encouragement they need to open your CV and consider your application.

Cover letter tips

Keep it short and sharp

A good cover letter is short and sharp, getting to the point quickly with just enough information to grab the attention of recruiters.

Ideally your cover letter should be around 4-8 sentences long – anything longer will risk losing the attention of time-strapped recruiters and hiring managers .

Essentially you need to include just enough information to persuade the reader to open up your CV, where the in-depth details will sit.

Sign off professionally

To round of your cover letter, add a professional signature to the bottom, giving recruiters your vital contact information.

This not only gives various means of contacting you, it also looks really professional and shows that you know how to communicate in the workplace.

Include the following points;

  • A friendly sign off – e.g. “Warm regards”
  • Your full name
  • Phone number (one you can answer quickly)
  • Email address
  • Profession title
  • Professional social network – e.g. LinkedIn

Here is an example signature;

Warm regards,

Gerald Baker Senior Accountant 07887500404 [email protected] LinkedIn

Quick tip : To save yourself from having to write your signature every time you send a job application email, you can save it within your email drafts, or on a separate document that you could copy in.

Dear Mr. North,

My experience of managing teams through change has taught me that if you put people first, everything else will fall into place. I led a team through a turbulent 18 months of downsizing at Labsworth, while a blistering period of growth at Pine Inc. provided an entirely different experience. No matter what the trajectory of the company is, there are lessons to be learned. Upon the completion of my MBA last year, I understood that I wanted to pursue a management role with an international dimension. I have never used my native Spanish in a business context and feel that your expansion into South America will allow me to employ my change management skills in a cultural setting that is familiar to me. In a start-up, it is important to employ people with both operational and commercial expertise. I have negotiated contracts worth $9.5m, improved delivery efficiencies by 12%, redesigned warehouse packing flows, overseen staff disputes, and driven profitability to industry-leading levels. In my last year at Pine, I spearheaded three initiatives to improve the net profit from 5.2% to 6.1%. Profits improve when everything is considered. I believe in letting my teams dictate the direction of their development. I have experience working with HR to design training modules, something that is particularly useful in a start-up. I enjoy the creativity and challenge of working out how to get the most out of a diverse set of professionals. 60% of my former team have enjoyed promotions over the past five years.

I cannot wait to find out more about your international expansion plans and hope that I am well-placed to assist.

Perfect cover letter structure

The perfect cover letter should have a clear and organized structure to make sure it highlights why you’re the right candidate for the job. Here’s what you should include to impress employers and increase your chances of landing the interview:

  • Header: The cover letter header is the space at the top, or sometimes the side, of your cover letter that contains your name, contact information, and any relevant links. The header serves a vital role in identifying your cover letter and helping to create an attractive presentation.
  • Greeting: The greeting of the cover letter is the way you address the person who will be reading it. We recommend using the hiring manager’s name whenever possible to establish a friendly, yet professional tone.
  • Introduction: The introduction consists of the opening lines of your cover letter that serve to grab the hiring manager’s attention and encourage them to read the rest of your cover letter. The introduction should also include the company name and the role for which you are applying.
  • Body (middle part): The body paragraphs are the middle part of your cover letter that give you the space and flexibility to discuss your accomplishments and key qualifications for the role.
  • Conclusion & sign off: The conclusion is the final sentence of the cover letter that generally includes a call to action. This sentence expresses your enthusiasm for the job and politely encourages the hiring manager to schedule an interview.

What makes a good cover letter example

A good cover letter example contains a combination of factors that work together to present you as the best possible candidate for the role. Remember that a cover letter sample is a starting point and should always be customized for your specific experience and the job you are applying to. In general, here are a few things to pay attention to that will make your cover letter stand out from the rest:

  • The right template : An attractive cover letter is more likely to be noticed by employers. The best cover letter template is one that combines your own professional personality with the brand and image of the company you’re applying to. Our adaptable cover letter sample can serve as a reference when creating your header.
  • Proper formatting : The right formatting makes your cover letter easier to read, and in turn, keeps the hiring manager interested for longer. Here are a few do’s and don’ts for great cover letter formatting .
  • Keep a balance of white space to text
  • Use paragraph breaks and proper punctuation
  • Create an attractive header at the top of the page
  • Adjust the margins to cram in more text
  • Go overboard with flashy colors unless appropriate in your industry
  • Forget to proofread for spelling and grammar mistakes
  • A customized greeting : Your cover letter greeting should use the hiring manager’s name whenever possible. If you can’t find the name of a specific person, make sure to customize the greeting for the company or team.
  • A professional email address : Your email address should be a combination of your first and last name (with numbers if you have a common name). Unprofessional email addresses are a big mistake.
  • Clear structure : Even though a cover letter is one of the more freeform parts of your application, it should still appear organized. Use the sections of our cover letter example above as a model for your own.
  • Detailed examples : The writing of your cover letter should give concrete examples of your skills, qualifications, and accomplishments. Make sure to use numbers and statistics whenever possible.
