Abstract: Higher order thinking skills (HOTS) play an important role in developing learning materials for reading comprehension. The major purpose of this paper is to know the problems rose in reading comprehension and to identify the development of higher order thinking skills for the students’ Kuningan University.
We used a three-step mixed-method research design and collected expert opinions through a questionnaire. First, a literature review found that higher-order thinking skills include problem-solving, metacognitive, critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation development skills.
- Higher Order Thinking Skills: In this study, the higher order thinking skills that were adopted, based on Bloom’s taxonomy, are evaluation, analysis, and synthesis. - Lower Order Thinking Skills: the lower thinking skills were defined in this study as the knowledge (memorization), comprehension, and application.
