Frequently Asked Questions
Quizzes, tests & exams, if students pass an assessment, can they take it again to raise their score.
Yes (if they have available retakes).
When a student satisfies the passing threshold of an assessment, the LMS will advance them to the next activity. However, if there are available retakes, a student can go back and launch an assessment until those retakes are exhausted. The highest score will be counted toward their overall grade.
Does the "Fail Attempts" include the Pretest?
Yes. Taking the pretest does count as one of the fail attempts, so if a student fails the pretest, he or she will be required to complete all activities within the lesson before the quiz can be launched again.
If the fail attempts are set to one and the student fails the pretest, an alert will appear in the Dashboard because the student has exhausted all fail attempts. An instructor will need to provide an optional retake to allow this student to take the end-of-lesson quiz.
When can a student Save and Exit in assessments?
With one of our most recent updates, Save and Exit is now available for quizzes, so all of our traditional assessments can have this option enabled by the educator. By default, all Edgenuity courses are distributed with Save and Exit enabled for quizzes, tests, and exams.
Save and Exit is enabled automatically on diagnostic tests and the MyPath Placement Exams.
If educators are concerned about students saving their assessment attempt and then going home to finish, they should enable Teacher Review for all attempts.
What happens when a student runs out of retakes?
This all depends on the options a course is set up with.
With the default options, an alert will go out to the Dashboard and a teacher will need to intervene so the student can move forward. The instructor can do one of the following:
Allow more retakes
Reset an assignment to help a student review
Insert a supplemental activity to strengthen a weakness
Pass the student onto the next activity and accept the failing assessment score
If auto progression is enabled, the highest score will be recorded as the graded attempt in the Gradebook and the student will advance to the next activity. No teacher intervention will be required and no alerts will be sent out to the Dashboard.
Can educators modify the questions on the assessments in any way?
No. At this time, educators cannot manipulate the assessments or item banks in any way.
How does the "Hide Viewed Questions" option work?
When the Save and Exit option is selected in the Edit Options page, educators have the option to hide questions that have already been viewed by students.
If a student needs to stop the assessment and come back at a later time, any questions viewed, whether answered or not, will be locked and inaccessible upon the next entry to the assessment. The student will not be able to change any answers to locked questions.
How many questions are on the assessments?
The quizzes are five questions and the tests and exams are twenty-five.
Can you leave a comment without grading the activity?
Yes. The student will see there is a comment on his/her screen when entering the course map.
How does the system grade an essay?
The system scores an essay on the structure, sentence length and complexity, style, mechanics, but does not score on content.
Managing Student Accounts
Can students still access their completed courses.
Once enrollments have been marked complete, those courses will be removed from their course list, they will need to contact an Educator to access that information.
Will a student who is enabled have to restart a course from the beginning is he/she made progress in it before being archived?
No. The progress a student made in a course will remain intact upon their account being enabled.
What is active time?
Active Time is the time a student spends on an activity up to submission for score. This includes watching videos, answering questions, taking eNotes, reading transcripts, or reviewing the Glossary. Active Time ends when an activity is completed and a score is assigned.
What is idle time?
Idle Time is all time that is not Active Time, including time spent reviewing previously completed activities, time in the Organizer, Lobby, or Course Map. See our Release Briefing for the last update to idle time management.
If students translate text on screen, can they also use the text-to-speech tool to listen to the translated text?
Yes, if students have both the translation tool and the text-to-speech tool enabled, they can use both of them for any text on screen for some supported languages. The languages that can be read-aloud are: English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Arabic.
What languages do we support with our translation tool?
