He comes from a middle-class background, so he didn’t have the beneficial things of life while growing up. Affected by the hints of artists like Falz , Davido , Wizkid , MI Abaga , and Olamide , Victony built up an adoration for music.

This adoration was helped with developing since he was honored with a wonderful voice. Hence, he began preparing his voice and recording the verses of melodies that went to his head.

A gifted performer, Victony made the studio his second home during his undergrad days. During this period, he composed and recorded a great deal of melodies which helped in refining his sound.

He dropped the front of the melody Ina The Benz as his introductory single. The first tune which happened to be his first appearance in the music scene didn’t generate much attention but the few listeners admired his sound.

This led to him being seen in the Nigerian music scene as the new kid on the block to join the likes of Cheque and Rema as trappers. With his being digested across the nation, he was signed to the Nigerian-based record label, Mainland BlockParty & Jungle Records .

The record label deal which paved way for his mainstream appearance saw him released his debut EP, Saturn . The debut EP which had Falz in one of the songs was a triumph on the grounds that numerous individuals tuned in to it and lauded Victony for his rapping ability. By this time, he has mastered his sound and has been well-loved by good music listeners.

In 2021, he delivered the melody, Broken, which was a moment hit. The melody opened him to a more extensive crowd. The music video of the melody was shot and coordinated immediately.

Personal Life

On the 21st of April 2021, news hit the net that Victony has been involved in a ghastly accident. He was rushed to the hospital and he was to undergo surgery. A Gofundme account was open to supporting his surgery bill.

The internet was torn apart by the sad news. The likes of Davido , Laycon , Ric Hassani , Soundz, and other celebrities were seen sharing their prayer via their social media spaces for a successful surgery.

Victony is still very much an uprising Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is not married and has no girlfriend flaunted on social media.

There was a drastic change of events in December 2021 at the “A Decade of Davido” concert, where he stood up from his wheelchair with the help of Davido on stage. The show got the fans going wild with wonder and excitement at the sudden turn of events.

At the time of this writing, Victony is fully recuperated and walking just fine while going on tours and concerts around the world. His sudden ability to stand from the wheelchair and walk also got a great number of people on the internet and social media abuzz while accusing the young artist of faking his inability to walk.

According to some allegations, he was only looking for sympathy from the crowd and buying his popularity. He, however, reverberated all claims and accusations by simply taking it all in stride while proclaiming that he was alright with people’s view of the situation.

On April 26, 2021, Victony attended musician Oxlade’s birthday party. On his way back in the company of four others (a lady and two males), they were involved in a ghastly motor accident that took the life of his friend, Doyin.

The fatal crash, which happened in Lagos, left their vehicle severely damaged and also led Victony to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The other two people also suffered major injuries that led to surgeries.

Victony sustained serious fractures on his thigh and head regions, leading to his wheelchair-bound case and complete hair-shaven cut. Although his doctors had assured him that the artist would walk again, his recovery process took at least seven months before he could use walking aid.

During the unfortunate accident and his recovery, colleagues in the industry, such as MI, Davido, Falz , Teni , Joeboy , YKB, Laycon , and several others, rallied their support for the artist. Fans (the outlaws as they are popularly called) of the Afro-pop singer also gave out their massive support to the Holy Father crooner.

What to Know About Victony’s Career

He started pursuing music in secondary school.

Victony began to build his music and rap career while he was still a teenager in secondary school. He got passionately involved in rap such that he even started to participate in rap battles with a couple of friends in school.

Sometime in 2017, when he was 16 years old, Victony went into the studio for the first time to create music. The versatile musician is known for his ability to make song covers. Some of the songs he has covered are Cardi B’s Bodak Yellow , Rema’s Trap out of the Submarine, Try me by Tems, Dami Duro by Davido, and Burna Boy’s On the Low .

Victony slowly delved into the R&B and Afropop scenes during the 2020 Corona Virus Pandemic as a way of trying out his versatility. He has since embraced the Afropop culture, which is vastly accepted.

Within a short time, he began steadily rising with the Afro-pop signature and shortly released his Saturn EP in 2020. Tragically, his career faced a downturn in April 2021, but he got back to release a song in July titled Pray and Unfamiliar Realms which was a two-track project under the name  Dark Times .

In October of the same year, he released what may be his greatest hit, Holy Father with Mayorkun. The song made number one Apple Music Nigeria chart and various charts for weeks.

Since his return, he has made songs like Kolomental, and Soweto and featured in others like Bad Girl, Anointing, Notice, and Different Size all in 2022, and released his EP Called “Outlaws.”

Victony is signed to Mainland Block Party & Jungle Record Label 

Victony is a member of a Nigerian label known as Mainland Blockparty And Jungle Records. He also belongs to The Plug Entertainment group, which is a management and Entertainment company with subsidiaries in music, sports, and entertainment.

Artists that have worked under The Plug are  C Kay , Bella Shmurda , and Raebel. Other artists are Davido , Mayorkun, Oxlade , and many more have also worked and are managed under the PLug Founders,  Asa Asika and Abiodun Bizzle Osikoya.

Victony Is Ready For His Ascent

Overcoming a serious car accident, the 21-year-old nigerian artist is on his way to becoming afropop’s next star..

Victony is a name now well known in Nigerian music. Five years ago, it referred to an obscure rapper on Soundcloud who released singles and popular covers of songs. In 2017, he put out The Outlaw King , a mixtape that introduced his thoughtfully-crafted lyrics and arresting flows to listeners who became early fans and refer to him as ‘The Outlaw King’ to this day.

Since then, Victony’s added more layers of emotion and fused a range of sounds to his music, reaching into the depths of R&B, trap, and afropop to create a signature that’s uniquely his. These additions broadened the spectrum of the Victony that was familiar, moving on to the Victony that was entering his stride. His 2020 debut album, Saturn, was an exhibition of his acquired melodic skills and the capacity to make charting songs, registering his name among a guard of promising music talents.

A temporary but tragic stop happened in Victony’s career on April 26, 2021, when he was in a car accident that claimed the life of his friend, Doyin , and put Victony in a coma. Following crowdfunding efforts from family, friends and fans, Victony underwent surgery and took hiatus from the limelight to process everything that happened.

Victony was determined to not let this derail his work, reappearing in a wheelchair, he bounced back with a single pack that included "Pray," which chronicled some post-accident feelings. Then, his performance on Mayorkun’s "Holy Father" put him right back on course as a budding hitmaker, perched on the number one spot on various music charts.

In 2022, stardom lies at his fingertips, as he's frequently pictured in studios working with some of Nigeria's biggest stars. With an even more mature perspective from a depth of life-shaping experiences, Victony is finally blossoming into his full potential. We spoke with him about his music, pivotal points in his journey, building his career, and overcoming challenges.

What are your earliest memories of connecting to music?

Growing up and all that, I think I’ve just had a love for music since I was a kid. My mom would always say that whenever Backstreet Boys came on, I’d want to hold the radio so it’s always been a natural attachment to music. When I reached the age when I started to know what I actually liked and didn’t, I wanted to emulate these people I idolized. I wanted to do what they were doing and that’s how I started making my own music. I was influenced heavily by artists like Drake, Kendrick . My first pro move was when I was 16, that was my first time in an actual studio to make music for people to consume. It was a very interesting experience and it happened right after secondary school.

How would you describe your music and how it’s morphed over the years?

I’ll say it’s very different, when you hear Victony you know it's me. It has this unique feel but still like for everybody and I’ll say it’s futuristic 'cause most of the songs that have come out have either been recorded a year before or something but it still fit into this current timeline. it’s also very liquid and fluid, my sound fits into anything. My music is also emotional because one thing my fans have with me is that connection, because they're able to get in their feelings when they hear me. I get that a lot.

Not many can confidently put their emotions on the line in their lyrics like you do, is this key to your songwriting process, being so vulnerable?

Music is my life, music is me. So no matter how I’m feeling I try to make it open enough for anyone else to see. Even if you can’t hear what i’m saying, the melodies or choice of chords will put you in your feelings. I want you to be in the mood I was in when I made that record, so I’ll go to any extent to make you feel that whether with song or visuals. I want to pass my passage. It’s really not a choice, it just happens. My whole process is about making people feel what I’m feeling.

You evolved from a rapper to a singer and that paid off with your debut project Saturn, why the switch, and how was making your breakout project Saturn ?

Well, corona happened and I had more time. Before then I was combining school and music, doing what I know how to do in music which was rapping. During corona, I decided to try new stuff and that’s when the whole singing thing started. I didn’t quit rapping though, I have a bunch of rap songs piled up just waiting for the right time and space to release them because a lot of people don’t know that side of me so I want them to digest this side of me first then I take them back to my rap side. Making Saturn was really an interesting experience. Saturn was an experiment I made when I just started signing and those six songs are amongst the first set of songs I did. It was me trying to find my foot in the afrobeat scene.

You had a breakout year in 2020-2021, how’s it feel to finally get the spotlight?

It’s been good. It’s made me know it’s possible and I’ve started hitting my expectations. Since I started putting out music I’ve been growing my fanbase and after the breakout years, it felt like the expansion has happened again. It’s been a continuous process and I’m just happy to break out and have a name for myself.

You had one of the biggest songs in 2021 with your feature on Mayorkun’s hit track "Holy Father," how did that come about?

Mayorkun reached out and said he wanted to really experiment with the album. He wanted to tap into different worlds cause no one would typically expect a Mayorkun and Victony record so him reaching out was really shocking. He told me to do my thing and take the lead, he did his thing, the rest is history. I’m grateful for the song’s success.

What can we expect from you in 2022, there’s been videos of you in the studio with a lot of big artists?

Loads of music is definitely going to be out this year but I'm really just digesting last year and putting myself together.

Early Life and Education

Victony, whose real name is Anthony Ebuka Victor, is a native of Orsu local government area in Imo State, but he was born in Lagos State. Victony was born on January 5, 2001, in the Ojo part of Lagos. He spent his formative years growing up in Ojo where he obtained his elementary and secondary school education. Currently, Victony is an undergraduate at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO). 

Victony was born on January 5, 2001, so he is 22 years old in 2023. 

Music Career 

As a young child, Victony was influenced to do music by listening to artists such as Davido, Wizkid, M.I. Abaga, and Falz. So, he decided to hone his rap skills with the dream of pursuing a career in music. It was however on an episode of Ladipoe’s Revival Sunday Series that Victony had his first experience in the Nigerian music scene. On that episode of the Revival Sunday Series, Victony traded verses with Ladipoe. Shortly after, Victony released his first single titled Ina the Benz in 2018, and later on his debut EP on Soundcloud titled The Outlaw King, as an independent artist . 

After he released The Outlaw King EP, Victony released covers of some international hit singles such as Cardi B’s Bodak Yellow, Moonlight by XXXTentacion, and Burna Boy’s On the Low. Victony soon switched from rapping to singing R&B, Afropop, and trap music. 

In 2020, Victony got signed to Mainland BlockParty & Jungle Records. In the fourth quarter of 2020, Victony through Mainland BlockParty & Jungle Records released Saturn, a 6-track EP that combined R&B and Afropop. Falz was the only featured artist on that EP. The songs that make up the Saturn EP include More, Maria ft. Falz , Space Time, Fasta , 87 Club, and Jo Riddim. The EP was well appreciated by music lovers in Nigeria. 

Victony also dropped Broken in 2020 which opened to a more extensive audience, becoming a hit. Sing My Song   (S.M.S) was another song by Victony released in 2020. 

In July 2021, three months after Victony survived a fatal car crash that claimed the life of his friend and left him confined to a wheelchair, he released a two-track EP titled Dark Times, which Blaise Beatz and Kizto produced. The songs in the EP we’re Pray and Unfamiliar Realms ft. Tredax. Pray enjoyed massive airplay in 2021. 

His biggest break in the music industry was in October 2021 when he collaborated on Holy Father, a song off Mayorkun’s Back in Office album. The song was a commercial success, topping music charts and enjoying massive airplay across the country. Holy Father reached the number 1 position on the Apple Music Nigeria chart, while it peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Top Triller Global charts by the end of 2021. 

The next major project Victony worked on was a collaborative EP with Rexxie, titled Nataraja which was released in the latter part of 2021 . Rexxie was in charge of the production aspect of the EP while Victony rendered his vocals. The songs in the EP are Like That and Ego.  

In 2022, Victony released several singles such as Apollo , Kolomental, and Soweto in preparation for Outlaw, an EP that would later be released that same year. Finally, Victony through Mainland BlockParty & Records dropped the Outlaw EP which consisted of 7 songs and guest appearances from KTIZO, Burna Boy, and Tempoe. The songs of the EP include Jolene, Chop and Slide, All Power, Soweto, Apollo, and Kolomental. 

Victony has been featured as a guest artist on several songs such as Burna Boy’s Different Size, Hoodini’s Euphoria, and DJ Tunez Bad Girl, among others. He’s also performed at numerous top events and music shows across the country such as the December 2021 show where stood to perform for the first time alongside Davido and Mayorkun after being confined to a wheelchair for eight months. He was also invited to perform in the 2022 Edition of the Big Brother Naija reality television show.

Victony’s Involvement in a Fatal Car Crash in 2021

If you’ve watched the music videos of Victony’s songs such as Holy Father and Kolomental, you’d notice that he’s seated in a wheelchair. On April 21, 2021, Victony was involved in a fatal car crash that led to the death of his friend, Doyin. Victony survived but lost his ability to walk, leading him to be confined to a wheelchair as shown in his music videos. However, by December 2021, he was able to walk unassisted. According to a post he made on his Instagram page in January 2023, he’s taking some months off to go for surgery for his legs. 

Victony is estimated to be worth between $40,000 to $80,000, however, it isn’t verified.

Rising African Afropop sensation, Victony, released his highly anticipated debut album, ‘Stubborn’ on Friday.

The 14-track project features global stars, including Asake , Shallipopi, Saint Jhn, and American music star Teezo Touchdown.

The 23-year-old singer, who rose to stardom with his viral 2022 single “Soweto,” featuring Rema and Don Toliver, garnering over 61 million views on YouTube, officially kicked off his music career in 2017 with the release of his mixtape, The Outlaw King.

He started as a rapper and later honed his skills and developed a more dynamic artistry that allowed him to blend the sounds of R&B, Trap, and Afropop to express the extent of his versatility.

Collaborating with diverse artistes, Victony said he had crafted a unique project that defies genres and showcases the rich diversity of African music on a global platform.

The singer told PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday that the album is a lyrical representation of his resilient return to music following the third anniversary of the near-fatal accident that claimed the life of his best friend and required him to undergo extensive surgery and rehab to re-learn how to walk.

Victony himself describes ‘Stubborn’ as more than just an album. He says, “The meaning of ‘Stubborn’ goes beyond what the title implies.

He said: ‘‘This album truly represents my story and everything I’ve had to overcome over the past few years. It’s not about reflecting on the trials and tribulations you inevitably face but also relishing in the abundance that life has to offer and authentically staying true to who you are despite what anyone has to say.

“I’m excited for my fans to hear what I’ve been working on for years and the masterful productions and artiste features that went into making this album.”

The singer disclosed that he was in a coma for four days and in a wheelchair for a year after he was involved in an auto crash around 3 a.m. on April 26, 2021.

He said, “Just leaving the club, on our way back, I slept off. I was tired. That was my first time outside up to that time. So, I slept off. When I woke up, I was in the hospital with my dad. I was like, ‘What’s happening?’. Because my parents didn’t know I was in Lagos. So, I was like, ‘Why is my dad here?’ And he told me I was in a coma for about three or four days.”

He said when he recovered from the coma, he gained more insight about the fatal accident.

“I heard that the impact was from the back, like another car hit us. The driver and the other guy at the front were totally fine. There were two at the back and two at the front. So, the one beside me [at the back] died while I broke my legs,” Victony recalled.

On exploring different sounds in his debut album, the young singer said he wanted his fans to get a feel for all sides of Victony on this album.
