Essay on My Vision for India: India, that is, Bharat, is the largest democracy in the world. Up until 1947, India was a British colony. On August 15th, 1947, a new India was born. Though drained and divided, India was desperate to make it on its own. Today, India has the 5th largest economy, the 4th largest military strength, and is home to over 1.4 billion people. 

Recently, the Indian Government launched Vision @2047 to make India a global economic power by 2047. The tagline for this scheme was ‘BRINGING CITIZENS AND GOVERNMENT CLOSER’.

Economic Development in India

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) released in its 2023 report that India, along with China is likely to drive half of global growth in the coming years. This will be in stark contrast to just a tenth of the growth for the USA and Europe combined. It means India and China will together pave the way for a global economic rebound. 

In 2023, the Indian economy will retain its crown as a bright spot, and it will remain the fastest-growing economy in the world. The American economy, on the other hand, grew by just 1.4% and that of China by 5.2%.

India liberated Bangladesh in 1971, reached out to Africa, successfully dehydrated Israel and Palestine, and struck strategic partnerships with the Gulf.

Today, world powers see India as an important partner, a leading voice in multilateral forums. India has become the face of peace and the loudest cheerleader of counter-terrorism. 

Today’s India is capable of standing for itself. India has taught the world tolerance and universal acceptance. During the nationalist movements in the 1920s and 1930s, India was raising the banner of Swaraj, or Self-Government. However, Winston Churchill, the former British PM, dismissed India’s experience with self-government, believing India was socially diverse. 

He said, ‘India is merely a geographical expression. It is no more a single country than the equator.’ He was convinced that independent India wouldn’t be able to stay together. Well, Churchill was wrong. India remains united and grows stronger. India’s success as a secular state has surprised many.

Just 17 years after Independence, India decided to go into space. The Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCO SPAR) was set up, and in 1963, India launched its first rocket from a town called Thumba, Kerala. The rocket parts were transported on bicycles and bullock carts.

On August 23, 2023, Indian space programs reached a new height with the successful landing of Chandryaan 3 on the lunar surface. Today, India is a well-established space power, it has reached the Red Planet and is unfurling the tri-color in space to mark its 75 years of independence. 

India was also the first country outside the UNSC permanent members to successfully test a nuclear bomb. And India did this despite the world’s best efforts. The Government of India, on the eve of the 75th Independence Day of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the remaining 25 years to the 100th Independence Day will be observed as “Azadi ka Amrit Kaal”. This period will be characterised by the unprecedented growth of the nation. This makes the year 2047 an important year for India. Thus, we bring to you a My Vision for India in 2047 Essay in English.

My Vision for India in 2047 Essay in English is as follows.

India is an ancient country, but the Republic of India as we know it is relatively new, born on 15th August 1947 after nearly 200 years of subjugation by the British. India’s freedom was hard to attain, mainly because the British possessed sophisticated weaponry and had a better political system. Thus, many Indians had given up their lives to make India free again. Every Independence Day, we celebrate this very spirit of our Freedom Fighters. 

India became Independent after a long and arduous struggle. Before the British arrived in India, India was known as a Golden Bird because of the wealth it had and the prosperity it observed. But, for the period of 200 years under British rule, India was robbed of millions of rupees, crores of Indians were killed, millions became poor and malnourished, and multiple man-made famines took place. India’s progress was taken aback significantly. This makes the eve of Independence an important day for all Indians.

My Vision for India in 2047 is that India recovers itself to become the Golden Bird once again. It is also that India eliminates poverty, joblessness, caste-based discrimination, corruption, illiteracy, social ills, and social taboos and becomes inclusive, progressive, growth-oriented, etc. My vision for India in 2047 also includes it becoming a highly developed nation with clean roads, streets without garbage, high-rise buildings, and good public services such as education, medical facilities, social security, etc. It must also be free of crime, murder, discrimination between men and women, uneducated people, etc.

My Vision for India in 2047 is also that it must become a developed country. All Indians, by 2047, must have a decent income so that they can feed their families and children. Clean drinking water, which is not available in many places, must be available to all, since, without water, life cannot be sustained. It also includes the social discrimination that has plagued our country that must also go away. All persons, be it a man or a woman, a Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jain, Buddhist, an Upper Caste or Lower Caste must be equal citizens contributing equally to the country. 

My vision for India in 2047 also includes an India which is digitally more advanced. As per my vision, all Indian cities must become smart cities by 2047, which will include smart traffic management, walkable localities, Housing and inclusiveness, developed open spaces such as parks, recreational spaces and playgrounds, smart public transport, citizen-friendly & cost-effective governance, smart mobility, smart management of resources and much more. 

The Village is the basic unit of India. But at this point, they are in a seriously bad condition. They lack basic infrastructure and facilities such as proper roads, public schools and hospitals, better management of resources, public institutions, lighted streets, or even pucca houses. Since the villages are abodes of traditional ideas and many regressive views, my vision for India in 2047 also includes such a village society that is progressive to accommodate modern ideas and ideals.

India is on the path to becoming one of the greatest countries in the world. It has been growing at high rates for many years. It has substantially reduced poverty, hunger, crime, corruption, social ills, malnutrition, infant mortality etc., and has increased the quality and quantity of public services such as schools, hospitals, vocational centres etc. 

The twenty-first century is rightly described as the Asian Century. It has witnessed a huge deal of growth in many Asian countries and India is at its forefront. However, we lag behind many Asian countries which started as poor but have progressed significantly to become one of the richest and most powerful countries in the world. In the year 2047, I visualize India as one of the top countries in the world. I especially want pollution to be eradicated from India as pollution is one of the major problems in our country today. Today the pollution level of Delhi, which is the capital city of our Country, is the worst among many countries. This is basically caused by diesel and petrol cars. Pollution is rising day by day. Therefore, the one and only solution to this problem is replacing them with electric cars. I want these petrol and diesel cars to be replaced by electric cars in India in the year 2047. In addition to this, the government can also use CNG cars instead of them.

Poverty is another issue which will be completely eradicated from every society in India in the year 2047. The current situation in India is not good with respect to poverty. Poverty can be seen in every part of India. Many people and children are dying due to this. Furthermore, poverty is due to many reasons. One of the reasons is that the people are not educated. Due to the lack of education, people are not getting jobs and the result of this is poverty.

I see India as poverty free in the year 2047 as the current government has taken massive steps to reduce poverty in India. The government has initiated many courses to teach the skills to the students so that they can join the manufacturing industries. In the year 2047, India would be free of poverty due to the current policies initiated by the government of India.

In the 100th year of independence, I see India as a country which is full of opportunities for the young people of India. In addition to this, I see India as the most prosperous country where every citizen is poverty free. I see Indian citizens in 2047 using public transport as their conveyance used to travel to their work and back home. I visualize Indian cities completely free of petrol and diesel vehicles. I see people using bicycles as a substitute for visiting the places near them. In 2047, people will completely switch to electric vehicles and CNG vehicles. As a result, we will see fewer diseases related to air pollution. There will be fewer citizens who will die of strokes and lung cancer which are caused by Air Pollution.

One of my visions for India in 2047 is that there we will see women empowered. We have currently experienced that most Indian women are not independent in terms of finance and many other important aspects. They are not included in making a decision whether we see this in the workplace or in our home. They are just limited to household chores. But the current Indian government has taken many impressive steps to empower the woman of our nation. Today, women are taking initiative by joining many multinational companies and getting paid a decent salary. Therefore, if we talk about the year 2047, then I am sure that we will see Indian women who will be definitely financially empowered and independent. They will surely overtake the men in building our nation in the year 2047.

Above all, I want India to be independent in all fields in the year 2047. I envision India as the world’s most developed nation. In the 100th year of Independence, I see India as the largest economy in the whole world. Furthermore, I visualize my country as a superpower. I see it as the nation which is there to support each and every nation which is in mid of a crisis. India in 2047 is also the nation which will completely abolish cast discrimination. Cast Discrimination is also one of the problems of today’s India. Many people are exploited due to this and are not given equal opportunities in various fields. However, the cases have come down drastically in recent years.

UK defence a key partner for Viksit Bharat 2047

As democracies committed to a rules-based international order, the United Kingdom (UK) and India share common values and security interests, making us natural partners in defence. This is evident in the joint military exercises our forces undertake.

But why, I’m often asked, do we not see the same level of partnership in defence manufacturing? Why does the UK, with 7% of the global arms export market, only hold a 2.5% share in India? At the same time, why doesn’t India export more into the UK defence sector?

The reality is that the UK has underperformed in India’s defence manufacturing sector for many years. However, this is rapidly changing through a revitalised, strategic approach from both governments.

In 2015, a Defence and International Security Partnership (DISP) was established. This was followed by a 2019 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Technology and Industrial Capacity Cooperation (DTICC) and, in 2021, a 2030 roadmap which positioned defence as one of five key pillars in the relationship. In 2022, the UK took the important step of adding India to countries eligible for Open General Export License (OGEL), to facilitate the export of niche and dual-use tech to India. Earlier this year, India’s defence minister visited the UK, resulting in a Letter of Arrangement (LoA) between India’s DRDO and the UK’s DSTL to boost technology collaboration.

Two months ago, the UK’s foreign secretary announced in New Delhi the UK-India Technology Security Initiative (TSI), introducing a new approach for bilateral cooperation in critical technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum, and semiconductors. This initiative, while not expressly defence-related, complements broader defence efforts.

A delegation of UK defence companies recently visited New Delhi to engage with the Indian government and industry, participating in events like the UK-India Industry Day. The momentum is clearly building.

Why? Because the potential for bilateral collaboration has never been greater.

India is focused on indigenisation, building reliable defence technology supply chains, and providing its forces with the capabilities needed for modernisation. The country is progressing rapidly in developing its domestic defence industry. The UK-Indian Business Council (UKIBC) and its members appreciate India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and applaud reforms in the defence sector. We recognise India’s focus on co-creation, co-development, and manufacturing for global markets.

India is not simply a market. UK companies are starting to see India as a strategic partner, integrated into their research, technology, and supply chains. UK firms stand to benefit from India’s cost-effective manufacturing, while India can accelerate its industrial development with support from mature defence markets like the UK.

Ultimately, this partnership is about equipping India’s armed and paramilitary forces with the tools they need. A secure India leads to a more secure Asia-Pacific region, which is a key UK interest.

Returning to the question: Why hasn’t UK defence manufacturing grown more in India? A survey was recently released showing the UK's contributions to India’s defence sector, revealing extensive business-to-business activity. UK firms may be too modest about their impact, or we might need to tell our story better. British technology is integrated into many defence platforms, as in the HAL-Tejas which contains critical systems from the likes of Meggitt and Martin-Baker.

The Implementation Agreement (IA) between Rolls Royce and GTRE to co-develop a new engine to power future Indian fighters augurs well for British involvement in major Indian platforms.

At UKIBC, our aerospace & defence industry group includes over 20 UK companies with combined global revenues of $60 billion, all keen to expand their business with India. UK firms are working with Indian partners on future programmes like electric propulsion, indigenous aero engine design and complex weapons.

Still, we’re only scratching the surface. Both governments and businesses need to seize the opportunity. In the UK, export control regulations do not always align with our trading goals. Where possible, the UK should ensure its export licensing rules enable the government’s ambitions for a robust defence manufacturing and technology partnership with India.

In India, adjustments to the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 could substantially increase Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and job creation. This would also enhance indigenous capability by bringing foreign technology into domestic programmes, boost the Strategic Partnership Model, and help India close the capability gap with China faster. For example, refining the grading of indigenous content and addressing FDI inconsistencies between procurement programmes would help ensure a level playing field for foreign and Indian firms, encouraging more foreign companies to manufacture in India for global markets, as they do in other sectors.

Despite geopolitical challenges, global defence firms are thriving worldwide, and while India’s defence market isn’t yet ‘plug and play’ for international majors, significant progress has been made. Still, our members want both governments to be bolder in their approach.

We need a plan to connect India’s flourishing defence start-up ecosystem with the UK. Establishing an accelerator programme for high-growth UK firms in India could drive more tech collaboration and joint ventures. At the same time, India could consider allowing 100% automatic FDI in defence, with national security exclusions and contract clauses to ensure supply during conflicts. We should explore a UK-India UAV programme to reduce reliance on Chinese components. The UK could sponsor more chairs at Indian think tanks to deepen understanding of India’s defence ecosystem. Additionally, we should explore ways for the UK and India to jointly provide defence equipment to third markets in the region.

UK firms are already active across India’s defence market, but we must communicate this more effectively. Even so, there is much more the two countries can do together, enabled by the right reforms on both sides, to secure a bright future in defence manufacturing.
